SOCIAL STUDIES
On Monday, November 1, 2010, I will be sending home a
take home social studies project. It will be due on Thursday, November 4, 2010.
Please feel free to assist your child, but please make sure that they do
a majority of it on their own!  I want to see what they are capable of
accomplishing!
WE WILL HAVE A CHAPTER ONE TEST ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2010. I WILL SEND HOME THE BOOK NIGHTLY. PLEASE MAKE SURE IT COMES BACK EVERYDAY!!! THE TEST WILL BE OPEN BOOK!

In class, we will be reading Chapter 2, The People of Texas,
Lessons 1 and Lesson 2.
As I said above, I will do my best to update this weekly and let you know what we are up too! We will probably have a math assessment on Unit 2 not this upcoming week, but the week after. We are super busy all the time, please make sure your kiddos are coming to school everyday!

Desperate Need!

First of all, A HUGE THANKS, to the parents who sent in pencils and glue sticks! That was such a huge help! I truly do appreciate any help I can get when it comes to the kiddos. With that being said...we are in desperate need of composition books! Can you believe that in the first 9 weeks we almost went through a whole composition book in science AND math??!! We are definitely hard at work! If you could even pick up one for us, that would be a huge help! I hope you know how much I appreciate all of your support!

Report Cards

Now that report cards have gone home and you have had a chance to look at them, please feel free to call me to set up a conference if you have any concerns. Also, I am not sure how it works, but I do know you can look up grades using the Home Access Center, https://esphac.killeenisd.org/homeaccess/. You should have received a login and password in the mail. If you did not receive this information in the mail, please contact the front office at 254-336-6660. I will do my very best to post grades at the end of each week. Please check your students grades often. This way, you can call me if you are concerned about a specific grade. Also, please remember that the only work I will send home are assessments. Your child's work will be kept in their composition books here in class. I am trying to create portfolios for your children of all the work they are that way they can also use the composition books to refer back to if they forget a concept.

Please call me if you have any questions!

Wednesday Folder

Hello parents! It's Wednesday and that means that those green folders will be coming home today! In those folders will be the Place Value math assessments that have been taken and graded. If your child did not score over a 70, they were given the opportunity to redo the questions that they missed. I took the average from the original score and the score after the corrections to come up with a new grade. If you have any questions about your child's grade, please text me, email me or call me!

Earning Points

As you know, your child has the opportunity to earn 25 points a week, which breaks down to 5 points a day. There are five blocks during the school day in which your child may earn a point. First block: 0825-1000, Second Block: 1000-1115, Third Block: 1115-105, Fourth Block: 105-240, and Fifth Block: 240-325. If you child has to be redirected at any of these times, they may not earn their block point. At the end of ever month, we will have a block party. The students must earn a certain number of points each month to attend the block party. I will not reveal to the students how many points because I want them working hard everyday, not just hard enough to earn enough points for the block party. I will or your child will write the number of points that they earn each day into their planner. In the classroom, each child has a folder with sheets in it for every week of the month. They mark down happy faces when they earn their points and when they do not earn their point, I will write the reason why they did not earn the point. I will send home these sheets at the end of every month. Due to the fact that I have started these folders, there will no longer be a sheet for you to sign in the Wednesday folder.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me!

Homework for the week of October 11

Your child will be coming home with a packet of work tomorrow. This packet is due on Friday. Your child may finish the work however they would like (all in one day or throughout the week), but please have them only return it on Friday! This packet is in addition to the home reading log and practicing their multiplication (at least 10 minutes a night please!). The HRL is 20 minutes of reading (20 minutes is the minimum please) and a summary. Please remind your child that a summary is not one sentence. A summary for the HRL is 4-5 sentences.

Also, please check planners daily and sign both the planner and HRL. This just lets me know that you are looking at your childs planner!

Thanks so much for all the support. Please do not hesitate to call, write a note, text, schedule a conference, etc. if you have ANY questions or concerns! I am enjoying your children and excited to watch them grow!
